Margilan

The Margilan collection at FW 24 was inspired by the story of Turgunbay Mirzaakhmedov, an eighth-generation sketch artist for Ikat. In the 60s, hand weaving became banned, but despite this, Turgunbai secretly created unique patterns, trying to preserve the art of his ancestors, putting his life on the line, and was convicted of this in 1982. After his release, it was only after a long time that his talent was in demand again. Even during his lifetime, he said, the time will come, and ikat will become fashionable. And so it happened: his patterns came to life again on silks, ikat shone in the collections of Dior, Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, and his sketches inspired us to create this collection. Turgunbai not only preserved his legacy, but also gave him a new life. We learned about this story from a book by art critic Binafsha Nodir. Flipping through it, we came across amazing sketches of national fabrics from the 60s. The beauty of these drawings amazed us so much that we immediately decided to go on a trip to the origins of this art – to the city of Margilan. The boxes were released in volumes of 35 and 36 candies.
